I can't remember exactly how we found this little place, but I am so glad we did. If you think the pictures online are too good to be true, prepare to be proven wrong. This property is absolutely stunning inside and out and no detail has been overlooked. The common spaces, the rooms, the balconies and the pool area are all part of a mid-century modern dream. The south-western flair reminds you that you're on vacation in warmer weather, a fact you won't soon forget as the staff pampers and caters to you without hesitation. The experience at Casa Lulu was truly luxurious and one of the best we've had in Mexico. The included breakfast was fresh and delicious each day and made for us at what ever time we decided to start our morning. Our mini bar was always stocked and a complimentary pitcher of water was always left in the room. Anything we needed was only a request away; from a poolside beer to a taxi ride or restaurant recommendation. The staff was so lovely and every inch of the property was clean and pristine. The linens - towels and sheets- were super soft and fluffy and a dream to relax in at the end of the day. The hotel is perfectly located - you can walk along the Malecon any time of day and are only a 10 minute stroll from the Centro Historico where many of Mazatlan's best restaurants can be found. You'll have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from many vantage points at Casa Lulu, and I would suggest enjoying the unforgettable sunsets from the balcony with a cold drink in hand. You may want to note that the hotel is accessed from the large wooden door located in the back drive. A security lock is in place, but we were let in after a call to the front desk. If you're travelling from the US or Canada, I'd recommend a phone plan for your trip as this came in handy to connect with the staff via What's App and to navigate around Mazatlan via Uber & Google Maps. I will mention that we travelled during the Revolution Day long weekend and the Malecon was very busy and at times, definitely exuded a loud, party atmosphere. Casa Lulu faces the street and we did find that we could hear the noise of those celebrating well into the early hours on the weekend. I imagine that this is just because of the holiday, as during the week, we found the evenings to be fairly quiet.
**A note about Mazatlan if your country's travel warnings seem a little alarmist - we have travelled up and down the Pacific Coast of Mexico and found Mazatlan to feel like one of the safest cities. The Malecon & the Centro Historico are recently restored with many areas looking brand new. There are plenty of modern conveniences to be found as well as gourmet cafés and restaurants. Our Uber drivers were courteous and friendly as were the local people we met. Many snow birds are flocking to Mazatlan as an up and coming destination. Be sure to get here and enjoy the "Pearl of the Pacific" before word gets out! And while you're at it, make Casa Lulu your home away from home while in Mazatlan. You won't regret the choice to luxuriate poolside in 30 degree weather while taking in the beautiful views, architecture and design of the property.
